Key Events for the Month of June 2026

• India’s Services Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 59.8 in May from 58.8 in April. The index has continued to expand since April after registering its weakest growth in 14 months in March. Growth in May was the strongest since November 2025.

• India’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) falls to 54.2 in June from 55.0 in May, Manufacturing activity expanded at a slower pace in June, with growth in output, new orders, export sales, and employment losing momentum, even as price pressures eased.

• India’s Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) increased to 3.9% in May, up from 3.5% in April, driven by higher food prices. Retail inflation recorded its fastest pace since January 2025, when it stood at 4.06%, making the May reading the highest in 16 months.

• India’s Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation for May came in at 9.68% year-on-year (YoY), exceeding both market estimates of 9.1% and the previous month's reading of 8.3%.

• India’s gross GST collections surged 13.9% YoY to ₹1.94 lakh crore in June 2026. The growth was primarily driven by a sharp increase in import revenues, which outpaced domestic GST collections during the month.

• Indian equity markets ended the month on a marginally positive note, with the Nifty 50 gaining 1.35% and the BSE Sensex rising 2.28%.
